Most of the children learned to ride a bike with the traditional method. Today I share a strategy for how to learn to ride a bicycle without an instructor. I still remember it clearly. My dad was running behind me, helping me keep my balance. After several meters, when I was inadvertently balancing myself, I let go. Suddenly, when I realized that I was alone, I lost my balance.
Fortunately, after a few tries, I finally succeeded. I will never forget the satisfaction I felt.
For many girls and boys, learning to ride a bike is one of the first outstanding achievements. Every child should have a bicycle! So I want to share a method with which anyone, young or old, can learn to ride a bike.

- A bicycle of adequate size and good mechanical condition. (preferably not a coaster brake or fixed gear).
- A pedal wrench. In some cases, a 15mm spanner will work.
- The use of a helmet is compulsory.
Steps to learning to ride a bike
1) Adjust the bike
As a first step, we are going to make some minor adjustments to the bike. We are going to remove the pedals using the 15mm wrench. With loosening the left pedal, must apply the force clockwise. To ease the right pedal, turn it counterclockwise.
Next, include steps to learning to ride a bike; you have to lower the seat height. Lower it to such a height that the person can put both feet on the floor while sitting.
2) Finding a suitable place to practice
To learn to ride a bicycle without an instructor practicing in a suitable area is safer, but it also allows the person to feel calmer and enjoy the process much more.
Ideally, look for a place with:
- Few obstacles
- Relatively flat
- With few people
If you are trying to practice on the pavement, the ideal is to find an area as flat as possible, without bumps or bumps. Alternatively, you can practice your cycling on the grass. The advantage of grass is that the falls will be smoother. The downside is that the bike will ride harder. If you decide to practice on the grass, you can improve the ride if you do it on a surface with a slight slope.
3) Push and roll
The goal of this third step is to learn how to balance on the bike. By removing the pedals and lowering the seat, we practically turn the bike into a balance bike. The person will propel himself by pushing the ground with his feet, with his eyes always on the road. You can start with short steps, as if you were walking, and gradually increase them until the person manages to maintain balance.
Before moving on to the next step, repeat this exercise at least ten times or until the person feels confident and has mastered it.
4) Direction and control
Once the person can balance on the bike, it is time to learn to steer and balance the weight to maintain control when changing direction. To practice this, the person will have to push, as in the previous step, but this time they will zigzag. Try to repeat the cycling exercise until the person swerves without supporting the feet during the change of direction.
5) Learn to brake
If the person can balance and steer the bike, it is time to learn to brake. (If the bicycle you are practicing on is a back-pedal brake, you must learn to pedal first).
To ride a bicycle safely, you need to be able to break at will. An excellent way to practice is by placing a mark and stopping just as you reach it. For this, you will have to push yourself, as in step 3. When you get the spot, you will have to come to a complete stop. The correct way to brake is to apply both the front and rear brakes simultaneously.
6) Push off the pedal and continue the push
For this step, we need to install the pedals. The seat continues at a low height. Before learning to pedal, we have to learn to put the bicycle in motion using the pedals. For this, the person will apply force to one of the pedals to set the bike in action. You have to keep balancing yourself with the momentum generated and continue until the speed runs out. It is essential to repeat this exercise several times with each foot until it is expertise.
7) Continuous pedaling
To start with step 7, You should move the bike using the pedals and have reasonable control. Now, it is time to try to pedal continuously. At first, it is customary to lose balance. It is necessary to learn to control and balance the weight and the force applied to each pedal stroke. Try to repeat the exercise until the person has mastered the routine.
8) Raise the seat
Finally, it is time to raise the seat to a suitable height. An appropriate size allows us to pedal more efficiently. In addition, knee injuries are avoided. Very important! Before venturing out onto the streets, the person must get used to this new height.
At first, it is pretty likely that the person will try to lower both feet when braking and that when they do not reach it, they will lose control. It’s a good idea to brush up on starting, controlling, and braking with the new seat height.
